Set Fire to the Stars 24.02.17

Set Fire to the Stars is a 2014 BAFTA cymru winning film, directed by Andy Goddard and starring our special guest for this evening Celyn Jones (Shameless) and Elijah Wood (Lord of the Rings).

In 1950, poet and academic John Brinnin (Wood) invites Welsh poet Dylan Thomas (Jones) to New York and Connecticut. Beautifully shot in black and white, the film offers a unique insight into Thomas’ complex personality; swinging wildly from crushing shyness and humility to egotistical rants followed by bouts of self-pity, all further fuelled by his love of the bottle.

During hugely successful tours of the US, he brings explosive energy and colour to an up-tight, monochrome world, captivating and then invariably offending all who come into contact with him.

American novellist Truman Capote described Thomas as … an overgrown baby who’ll destroy every last thing he can get his hands on, including himself.

In The Guardian, Mark Kermode wrote of the film: “Celyn Jones and Elijah Wood have a natural chemistry on screen in their respective roles, with top class acting completing this gorgeous work of art. Jones’ energy and dynamism in particular is enthralling.”

Come along and meet Celyn Jones for what will be a hugely entertaining Q&A session.
