Directed by celebrated British director Ridley Scott, this neo- noir sci-fi film is an adaptation of Philip K. Dick’s 1968 novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?

Set in a dystopian future Los Angeles of 2019 (yes, now!), synthetic humans (replicants) are bio-engineered by the powerful Tyrell Corporation to do dangerous work on off- world colonies. When a fugitive group of replicants led by Roy Batty (Hauer) escapes back to Earth, cop Rick Deckard (Ford) reluctantly agrees to hunt them down.

Visually beautiful and with groundbreaking special effects, held together with a thrilling storyline, Blade Runner is widely regarded by critics and fans alike as one of the best science fiction movies of all-time. In 1983 the film won three BAFTA awards with five additional nominations, including for the soundtrack, composed by Vangelis, which was also nominated for Best Original Score at the Golden Globe awards.

The films influence can be seen in numerous subsequent science fiction films. Seven versions of Blade Runner exist as a result of controversial changes made at the request of studio executives. In 2007, Blade Runner (The Final Cut), a 25th- anniversary digitally remastered version, became the only version over which Scott retained artistic control. A 2018 sequel was met with critical acclaim and has been a box office success.
